We are currently looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team of talented professionals – the driving force behind Prism’s services.  If you are a professional licensed Mechanical Engineer with a proven track record of designing mechanical systems, leading and managing projects of various types and scales, and acting as a trusted client consultant, this role may be for you.

The Senior Mechanical Engineer Role

The Senior Mechanical Engineer is an advanced technical designer who leads comprehensive mechanical building system upgrades for HVAC and plumbing systems.  You will need to interact directly with clients, and work collaboratively with team members coming from various engineering disciplines and various third parties in order to deliver effective, value-adding solutions.   Moreover, you have general business insight as you will be involved in all the different stages of the projects you manage (ie from RFP response, to mechanical analysis, detailed design, procurement services, and construction oversight).     

Your responsibilities include:

  • Conducting rigorous and comprehensive on-site investigations and analyses of target mechanical building systems, seeking to identify deficiencies and opportunities for optimization in the operation of the building energy consuming systems and related controls
  • Carrying out detailed, innovative design of HVAC and plumbing systems, including centralized systems based on high efficiency, low carbon strategies
  • Leading the preparation of tender documentation including coordinating with owners on requirements
  • Ensuring that construction and implementation are carried out within agreed project timelines and coordinating with owners and contractors
  • Providing technical guidance and co-ordinating activities of three or more intermediate and junior engineers and technologists assigned to projects

What you bring:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering

Licences and Certifications: 

  • P.Eng license / eligibility for registration with EGBC
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification an asset
  • LEED or Green Building Certification an asset


  • Relevant experience (equivalent to more than 10 years) in the field of consulting engineering, preferably in the commercial, institutional and government facilities
  • Extensive experience in practical design in energy retrofits, site investigations and field reviews


  • Comprehensive knowledge of the BC Building Code, Vancouver By-Laws, ASHRAE, CSA, CCDC, ASPE  and other applicable codes and standards
  • Skilled application of project management principles (e.g. planning, scheduling, delegation of responsibilities, costing and profitability)
  • Ability to work with clients, building users, consulting engineers, project managers, contractors, and product suppliers in a professional manner
  • Proficient communication (oral and written) and technical writings skills in English
  • Computer application skills (ie MS Office)
