Energy Engineer (Controls and Recommissioning Specialist)

We are currently seeking a qualified candidate to undertake Energy Management Engineering with a focus on building systems control optimization. You should have an engineering background with strong knowledge of HVAC systems, building controls systems (DDC), commissioning, system utilities use, and energy management opportunities for commercial and institutional buildings.

Responsibilities include:

  • design control systems for building HVAC and lighting systems, including the development and implementation of sequence of operations to achieve energy efficient building operations
  • read and evaluate program code for various manufacturers
  • conduct rigorous and comprehensive on-site (and using remote access) investigations and analyses of the building operations seeking to identify deficiencies and opportunities for optimization in the operation of the building energy consuming systems and related controls
  • gather operational and functional performance data to assess equipment operation and identify deficiencies and opportunities for improvement
  • use engineering calculations or simulation models to estimate the potential energy and demand impacts of implementing identified controls measures
  • carry out field measurements and electrical monitoring
  • conduct preliminary and detailed cost estimating for controls system upgrades and replacement
  • prepare specifications and tender packages for procurement and installation of controls equipment
  • review trend data and on-site performance to ensure compliance with design
  • coordinate and review progress of work assignments, and prepare progress reports
  • manage projects, including planning, proposals, scheduling, delegation of responsibilities, project supervision, technical content and review, client liaison, invoicing and profitability
  • assist with marketing of services and writing proposals

Qualifications:

  • BASc degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Systems Design Engineering
  • licensed P.Eng. - registered or eligible for registration with APEGBC
  • minimum 5 years Energy Management Engineering or Building System Engineering experience
  • experience in consulting engineering in the commercial, institutional, or light industrial building sectors
  • knowledge of the BC and Vancouver Building Codes, Model national energy code, Canadian Electrical Code, ASHRAE, and other applicable codes and standards
  • computer literacy including proficiency in MS Word and Excel (MS Access would also be beneficial)
  • experience in site investigation and construction reviews
  • proficient verbal and written communication skills
  • ability to work with clients, building operators, building users, consulting engineers, project managers, contractors, and product suppliers in a professional manner
