Junior Mechanical Design Technologist

We are currently seeking a qualified Junior Mechanical Design Technologist to join our mechanical engineering team. Your assets include a diploma from a BC College (or equivalent) in building system design of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems, strong AutoCAD skills, excellent communication skills, and a drive to improve documents and standards.  A background in energy management and building controls is an asset.  Project experience using AutoCAD and Revit for commercial building design and installations is also an asset.

You will work under the supervision of project managers and mechanical engineers.

Responsibilities:

  • prepare CAD mechanical drawings and specifications for HVAC, plumbing, sprinklers and control systems
  • assist in the design of HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systems, basic controls, upgrades, load calculations, energy savings calculations and equipment selection
  • coordinate with other design disciplines
  • prepare tender documentation
  • review shop drawings
  • verify “as-built” documents and create drawings from field reviews
  • interface with the client, building owner, architect, contractors, consultants, utilities, and building authorities

Qualifications:

  • diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology or equivalent
  • no minimum working experience in mechanical design field.  Experience in consulting engineering in the commercial, institutional, or light industrial building sectors is an asset
  • background in commercial building construction and renovations
  • good working knowledge and experience with AutoCAD  2010
  • knowledge of the BC and Vancouver Building Codes, and other applicable codes and standards
  • strong computer literacy including proficiency in MS Word & Excel. 
  • practical building system design experience with HVAC and plumbing systems
  • proficient verbal and written communication skills
  • strong problem solving and time management skills
  • team-oriented
