Intermediate Energy Management Engineer

We are currently looking for an Intermediate Engineerto join our team of talented professionals.  We are looking for individuals that have:

  • a professional engineering license (i.e. P.Eng)
  • a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (Mechanical, Electrical, Systems Design or equivalent)
  • equivalent to 5-10 years of experience in the field of building systems design, primarily of HVAC systems

The Intermediate Energy Management Engineer Role

The Intermediate Energy Management Engineer provides energy efficiency upgrade recommendations and designs mechanical and control systems for various efficiency upgrades mainly in commercial, municipal and institutional buildings, including the development and implementation of sequence of operations to achieve maximum energy efficient building operations.  You will need to interact directly with clients, and work collaboratively with team members coming from various engineering disciplines and various third parties in order to deliver effective, value-adding solutions.   You have general business insight as you will be involved in all the different stages of the projects you manage (ie from RFP response, to technical analysis, detailed design, procurement services, and construction oversight).

Your responsibilities include: 

  • Conducting energy studies, analyses and evaluations of energy savings in existing commercial, institutional and industrial facilities.  
  • Carrying out the review of controls sequences, reviewing and evaluating program code from various control system manufacturers and identifying  opportunities for control optimization
  • Preparing cost estimates for energy upgrades
  • Designing  HVAC and controls upgrades for energy retrofits
  • Preparing tender packages for procurement of equipment, installation and commissioning of upgrades and site reviews of installations,
  • Providing  technical guidance and coordinating activities of other professionals assigned to projects

What you bring:

  • Education:  A relevant Engineering Bachelor’s degree (Mechanical, Electrical, Systems Design or equivalent)
  • Licenses and Certifications: 
    • P.Eng license / eligibility for registration with EGBC
    • CEM, CMVP, LEED or equivalent certifications are assets
  • Experience: 
    • Equivalent to 5–10 years of experience in the field of building systems design, primarily of HVAC systems
    • Energy management and control systems design experience are assets
    • Consulting experience in building retrofits is preferred
  • Competences: 
    • Skills in performing various types of review and analyses such as energy trend and regression analysis, baseline and CUSUM analysis, system specific energy modeling and building energy modeling
    • Skills in gathering operational and functional performance data to assess equipment operation and identifying deficiencies and opportunities for improvement
    • Knowledge of the BC Building Code, Vancouver By-Laws, the Canadian Electrical Code, ASHRAE and other applicable codes and standards
    • Skilled application of project management principles (e.g. planning, scheduling, delegation of responsibilities, costing and profitability) preferred
    • Ability to work with clients, building users, consulting engineers, project managers, contractors, and product suppliers in a professional manner
    • Proficient communication (oral and written) and technical writings skills in English
    • Computer application skills (ie MS Office)
