Intermediate Electrical Designer

We are currently looking for an Intermediate Electrical Designer to join our team of talented professionals – the driving force behind Prism’s services.  If you have a proven track record of designing electrical systems using commercial CAD tools, leading projects, and acting as a trusted client consultant, this role may be for you.

The Intermediate Electrical Designer Role

The Intermediate Electrical Designer is an advanced technical designer who performs comprehensive electrical building system upgrades in one or a combination of the following areas:  power distribution, lighting (indoor and outdoor), controls, fire alarms, and voice/data communication systems.  You will need to interact directly with clients, and work collaboratively with team members coming from various engineering disciplines and various third parties in order to deliver effective, value-adding solutions.     

Your responsibilities include:

  • Assisting  in the preparation of technical content in tender packages
  • Conducting audits and site reviews of building systems, seeking to identify deficiencies and opportunities for optimization in the operations
  • Carrying out design of power distribution, lighting (indoor and outdoor), controls, fire alarms, and voice/data communication systems primarily for building renovations and also for new constructions
  • Preparing design technical documentation using MS Office and AutoCAD
  • Verifying that construction and implementation are carried out within agreed timelines and according to design specifications by conducting field reviews and preparing reports.
  • Providing technical guidance and co-ordinating work of junior designers in the Electrical Team and at the same time, liaising with other teams in Prism, clients, building owners, architects, contractors, consultants, utilities and building authorities

What you bring:

Education: 

  • Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology, Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent

Licences and Certifications: 

  • ASct or CTech certification an asset

Experience: 

  • Relevant experience, equivalent to at least 5 years at an advanced level, in the field of electrical design, primarily in commercial, institutional or government facilities

Competences: 

  • Skilled use of AutoCAD.  Skills in using Revit an asset.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the Canadian Electrical Code, BC Building Code, Vancouver By-Laws, and other applicable codes and standards
  • Ability to work with clients, building users, consulting engineers, project managers, contractors, and product suppliers in a professional manner and in a team environment
  • Proficient communication (oral and written) and technical writing skills in English
