Senior Mechanical Engineer

We are currently looking for an Energy Management Specialist to join our team of talented professionals.  We are looking for individuals that have:

  • a genuine interest in energy efficiency and sustainability
  • education in a relevant field such as Energy Management or Mechanical Design
  • experience assisting in the design of HVAC and/or building control systems

The Energy Management Specialist Role

The Energy Management Specialist assists Energy Engineers in conducting energy audits and in the analysis and evaluation of energy savings, mainly in mechanical systems but also of electrical systems, in commercial, institutional and industrial buildings.  You will need to interact directly with clients, and work collaboratively with team members coming from different engineering disciplines and various third parties in order to deliver effective, value-adding projects and solutions.  

Your responsibilities include:

  • Carrying out energy data analyses
  • Gathering operational and functional performance data to assess equipment operation and to identify deficiencies and opportunities for improvement
  • Assisting in the review of DDC controls sequences, reviewing and evaluating program codes from various DDC system manufacturers and identifying opportunities for control optimization
  • Assisting in the design of HVAC and controls upgrades for energy retrofits, including the preparation of preliminary and detailed cost estimates
  • Providing support in the preparation of tender packages for procurement of equipment, in the installation and commissioning of upgrades, and in site reviews of installations
  • Researching industry technologies and applications, as well as developing and assembling training and education materials for energy management
  • Assisting in the preparation of technical reports

What you bring: 

  • Education:  At least 2 years of post-secondary education (ie Diploma) in a relevant field (Energy Management, Mechanical Design or equivalent)
  • Licenses and Certifications: Sustainable Energy Management Advanced Certificate (SEMAC), Certified Energy Management (CEM) designation, or their equivalents are assets
  • Experience: 
    • 1 – 2 years of experience assisting in the design of HVAC and/or building control systems, preferably in existing commercial, institutional and/or industrial buildings.
    • Experience in the field of energy management engineering analyzing and conducting energy management related studies and projects and determining energy management opportunities an asset.
  • Competences: 
    • Technical skills in energy management engineering, including performing energy management calculations, computer simulations, building automation and energy monitoring and tracking preferred.
    • Basic knowledge of the BC Building Code, Vancouver By-Laws, Canadian Electrical Code, ASHRAE and other applicable codes and standards an asset.
    • Ability to work with clients, building users, consulting engineers, project managers, contractors, and product suppliers in a professional manner
    • Proficient communication (oral and written) and technical writings skills in English
    • Computer application skills (ie MS Office)
